3d audio converter software: expand your sound
In recent years, spatial audio has revolutionized how we experience sound, creating an exciting new frontier for listeners, music producers, and content creators.
I’m a huge fan of 3D audio and spatial sound, so I’ve set out to create a custom 3D DAW - focusing on this area of audio technology.
I’m dedicated to making software that works as a 3D audio converter and spatial audio converter tool - making it easy for users to place any sound into a virtual 3D space, and add a new level of spatialization and acoustic simulation.
In this guide, I'll explore 3D audio converter software that offers precise control over the spatialization of your audio files.
By the end of this guide, you’ll understand the benefits of spatial audio conversion - and how you can easily convert any sound.
Overview - 3D Audio Converter with Audiocube
A 3D audio converter adds width, depth, and realism to audio files, creating a more immersive and visceral listening experience.
3D audio converters are beneficial for music production, gaming, VR, and other applications that require dynamic sound environments.
You can easily convert any .wav or .mp3 into a custom 3D environment, with precise control over the placement and directionality of sounds - using the right tools.
Audiocube is a powerful 3D DAW, offering intuitive tools for 3D audio conversion, spatialization, and binaural sound design, making it a top choice for immersive audio creation.
3D Audio Converter: Step-by-Step Guide
Let’s get stuck straight in and have a look at how you can quickly convert any audio file to 3D and spatial audio using Audiocube.
This is not some over-simplistic tool for making a song spin around your head - this is a powerful piece of software giving you precise control over the placement of sounds in a 3D, acoustically simulated space.
That said, I still made sure that converting regular audio into a full 3D immersive experience with Audiocube is straightforward and effective.
Download & Open Audiocube - After downloading the free (or paid) version of Audiocube, start by using the ‘3D Audio Converter’ project template. This will get your scene set up with everything you need.
Import Audio Files - Now you’ll want to import some audio files. On Windows, drag and drop files into the app to add them to your library. On Mac, open the Audio Library folder, import your files, and refresh the library. There is no max file size! Learn more about Audiocube’s Library and Import.
Split Stereo Files for Independent Channel Control (Optional) - If you're working with stereo audio and want separate control over the left and right channels, split your stereo files into two separate tracks. This gives you full control over the spatial placement of each channel. Click on the name of the sample in the File Browser Preview Window, and you will see a split option.
Add Audio Files to the Scene - Drag and drop your audio files into the scene within Audiocube to create sampler devices loaded with your audio files. Here, you can position them relative to the listener’s point in a 3D space. Experiment with different placements - above, behind, or to the sides of the listener - for a more immersive experience.
Adjust Acoustic Settings for Realism - Tweak the acoustic settings to simulate the environment you want your listeners to experience. Whether it's a small room or a vast open space, Audiocube offers a variety of reverb, distance, and panning options to enhance the realism of your audio.
Use the Spatial Automator - Take things further by using the spatial automator to dynamically move sounds within the 3D space over time. This is especially useful for creating movement and adding depth to your sound design.
Preview in Real-Time and Make Adjustments - Audiocube allows you to listen to your spatialized audio in real-time. As you hear the results, make any necessary adjustments to fine-tune the 3D effect to your liking.
Record and Export - Once you’re satisfied with the setup and your sound design is complete, hit the record button to capture the audio. Audiocube will export a high-definition .wav file of your newly spatialized audio, ready for use in your projects.
As you can see, the process of 3D audio conversion is super easy in Audiocube. I made this software so that anybody can start experimenting with spatial audio in an intuitive way.
You have total control over how sounds are spatialized - you can set them in any position from the listener, and it renders the audio spatialization with high definition, mimicking how we hear sounds in a 3D space in real life. Thanks to the HRTF-Binauralization process, the results are natural and incredibly realistic.
Now you know how easy it is to convert audio to 3D, let’s have a look at some of the benefits, and a broader definition of 3D audio.
What is 3D Audio?
3D audio refers to sound that seems to come from all directions - left, right, above, and below - similar to how we naturally perceive sound in the real world.
It’s used in gaming, virtual reality (VR), movies, and music production to enhance the immersive experience. For example, when listening to a song through headphones, you can feel like the sounds are moving around you.
There are various types of 3D audio, each offering different formats, techniques, and setups, including binaural audio, Ambisonics, and surround sound.
Whether you're a seasoned audio engineer or a hobbyist looking to enhance your audio output, 3D audio offers an entirely new way experience sound.
Why Use a 3D Audio Converter?
Using 3D audio converter software helps transform regular stereo audio into a spatialized format that creates a true sense of depth and directionality. These converters provide powerful tools to simulate realistic sound movement, offering full control over where each audio element is placed within the virtual 3D space.
Whether you're mixing a song, developing a game, or working on a VR project, 3D audio converter tools allow you to push the boundaries of creativity, delivering a compelling and immersive experience for your audience.
It’s even a nice way to get even more immersed in your favorite songs! Or if you are a sample seller, you can create deeper variations of your sample packs to sell.
(I’m currently working on a method to stream audio via a microphone jack for realtime 3D conversion!)
